THE MALKIN DUO
Anat Malkin-Almani began her violin studies at the age of five with her father, Isaac Malkin.She made her Carnegie Hall debut at age sixteen under the baton of Alexander Schneider. Concert tours have taken her throughout Holland, Israel, Italy, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States. An avid chamber musician, she has collaborated with artists such as Emanuel Borok, Karen Dreyfus, David Geber, Mikhail Kopelman, Julia Lichten and Peter Winograd.
Ms. Malkin-Almani studied at the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School, as a student of Cho-Liang Lin, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree, and the Maastricht Conservatorium in Holland, where she worked with Boris Belkin and graduated with a Master of Music degree, cum laude. A distinguished teacher, she is a member of the violin faculty at the Manhattan School of Music.
Violinist Bracha Malkin began studying the violin at age four under the tutelage of her father, Isaac Malkin, later continuing her studies at the Manhattan School of Music. Ms. Malkin is a graduate of The Curtis Institute where she was a student of Aaron Rosand.
Ms. Malkin has been heard in numerous performances worldwide, both with orchestras and in recital, including the St. Petersburg State Academy Symphony, the Ural Philharmonic, and the Westchester Philharmonic. She has soloed in the Concertgebouw Hall in Amsterdam, given recitals in St. Petersburg’s Kapella Hall, in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem, as well as toured several cities in Japan, Brazil, Italy and the United States. In addition, Ms. Malkin is a prizewinner of both the Wieniawski International Violin Competition as well as the Paganini International Violin Competition.
The Malkin Duo was formed in 1996.That same year they were winners of the Artist International Series Auditions, entitling them to a debut recital at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, where they have performed since, as well as in Israel, Italy and throughout the USA. In 2003 the sisters were the winners of the Trinity Concert Series Auditions.
In his book entitled “Violin Virtuosos from Paganini to the 21st Century”, Henry Roth named both sisters as two of the, “gifted young violinists who are among the vanguard leading the march of violin art into the 21st century.”
Eduard Laurel, pianist and native Texan, studied at the University of Texas with David Garvey and Gerard Sousay and at the Manhattan School of Music with Solomon Mikowski. He has performed in Canada, England, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Taiwan and the United States. He is a member of the Easternmost Piano Quartet. Mr. Laurel works as a freelance pianist in New York City and is on the staff at The Julliard School and Mannes College of Music.
